About

ALI(E/A)NSI continues what we started with LANDSLIDE last year and grows from an ongoing process of conversation, reflection and recalibration between sōydivision Berlin, Moving Poets Berlin e.V. and its space and project NOVILLA.

The exhibition brings together different generations and trajectories of artists whose relationships with this place have developed in very different ways over the past three decades until the present day.

There is a growing need and desire to engage more directly with where we are. Schöneweide itself is a place in constant transformation, shaped by its industrial promises and ruins, its East Berlin histories and their aftermaths, migration and changing neighbourhoods, as well as histories and present realities of right wing violence and exclusion.

From this particular place at the edges of Berlin, we ask how these very local experiences of belonging and coexistence are entangled with the larger fractures and overlapping crises happening around us.

Five A’s

ALIEN · ALIENATION · ALIGNMENT · ALLIANCE · AFFINITY

Rather than fixed categories, the five A’s form interconnected territories for thinking about difference, separation, encounter, solidarity and the relations that might remain afterwards.

How do we move from being perceived as alien, through experiences of alienation, towards moments of alignment, the building of alliances, and affinities that might continue beyond them?

The exhibition does not look for consensus or for differences to disappear. Instead, it asks how meaningful relations and forms of coexistence might emerge despite those differences.
